Welcome to Mokuhankan Conversations

Thank you for visiting the 'Mokuhankan Conversations'.

The idea behind this section of the Mokuhankan website is to provide a place for easy communication between - and among - the people making the prints, and the people interested in the prints.

The initial impetus for starting this blog was that I found myself time and again writing the same message to each of the friends who have been advising/assisting me in my printmaking projects. I wanted to discuss some of the same points with different people, but it seems so impolite to copy/paste parts of an email sent to a friend into a similar email to another friend.

So I thought that a venue like this may provide a way for such communication to take place, with the added benefit that because each of my correspondents would be able to see the comments/replies from the others, it may lead to more depth in the communication.

We'll see.

I have created a few 'Categories' for the posts I will make to this blog:

Prints: I will post here each time a new print is officially added to the Mokuhankan catalogue, and hope that I will be able to receive plenty of open feedback on both my choice, and on matters relating to the print itself.

Up and Coming: I will occasionally post items here featuring a design I am considering for the catalogue. I particularly hope to get plenty of feedback here, for obvious reasons!

Process: Posts in this category will deal with how the prints are made. Descriptions and photos from the workbenches will appear here. I will also post in this category - open where anybody can read them - questions and points for the designers of Mokuhankan prints. I think that by giving collectors this window into how we go about selecting/editing/producing the prints, we can add a great deal of value to the process ... I would dearly love to be able to read some kind of record of such details of how prints were produced in the past; perhaps we can leave an interesting trail for future print lovers ...

Other posts will fall into a General Interest category. In addition to that, there is a special 'The Back room' category, which is intended to be a sort of 'after hours' place where collectors/designers can post/discuss things that do not need to be tied to specific Mokuhankan issues.

As is the case with most blogs, posts will appear first at the top of the front page, then will gradually be pushed down the page by newer items. Once they have dropped off the page, they can be accessed by browsing the 'Category' links in the sidebar at the right side of the front page.

(Please note though, that the 'Comments' section for each post - the actual discussion 'thread' - will appear in normal chronological order, starting with the first entry and continuing down the page as comments are received.)

On return visits, you can check the 'Recent Conversation' box in the sidebar of the front page to see what comments/discussion has been added most recently.

Thank you for reading this far, and I hope you find something of interest in the Mokuhankan Conversations!
