Description
Print 1 (upper left): An advertisement for "名代雷焼" ("famous kaminari-yaki"). Kaminari-yaki was a type of senbei cracker (presumably punched into the shape of something thunder- or lightning-related) popular in Asakusa in the Showa period.
Print 2 (upper centre left): The gate of the famous Kaminarimon ("Thunder Gate") in Asakusa, with some senjafuda featuring the names of some sponsors.
Print 3 (upper centre right): A shadow-puppet of Raijin (雷神), the god of thunder.
Print 4 (upper right): Raijin playing the shamisen.
Print 5 (lower left): Raijin's drums, which make thunder and lightning when played.
Print 6 (lower centre left): A lightning rod.
Print 7 (lower centre right): An evening downpour over a bridge.
Print 8 (lower right): A spinning magic lantern (廻り灯篭) decorated with cut-out images of workers caught in a storm. A candle would be placed inside the circular lantern, and the rising heat would cause a fan-shaped device above the candle to rotate, making the images move.
