Mr. Kametaro Harada was one of the leading block carvers in the mid 20th century, working for many of the major publishers, but mostly as the lead carver for the Doi Hanga company, working on many of their iconic shin-hanga designs. In his younger days, he fancied himself as an artist, but wasn't able to make a career of that, and turned to a craftsman's life instead. His son has been visiting our Asakusa shop frequently, and one day brought over a tiny little book of his father's watercolour paintings. One of those caught our eye, and - with the son's permission - we have turned it into a charming little woodblock print. And in a nice little twist of fate, Dave carved the blocks for this print on the carving bench used for many decades by Harada-san himself, which was passed on to us by the son ...
