... then Japan Will Come to You!

Thank you everybody! This campaign - which went 'live' on March 23rd (2020), and which is now closed - was a massive success. We had thought it would perhaps be of interest to a 'few' people, but we were wrong. The 100+ sets of gift pamphlets that we had optimistically prepared turned out to be inadequate, and part-way through we had to scramble to obtain more.

The revenue that came in went a long way to help us cover the shortfall from the Asakusa shop being forced to close at the height of the cherry blossom season. Our shop is still closed, and of course will be for some time to come, but we are now past the initial shock, and are planning how we can scale down our business slowly and quietly, but in a way that tries to maintain as much work for our staff as possible.

What .... ???

Many of the attendees to our Print Party experience in Asakusa not only have fun making their own woodblock print, but they also browse through our selection of prints while they are here … and then of course stroll around the Asakusa district, enjoying other activities as well as the wide variety of foods available.

Due to the international health situation, people are unable to do these things at present, as our shop is closed for 'the duration'.

Closed Mokuhankan Shop

Here at Mokuhankan, we need to find a way to keep our printers and our Print Party staff gainfully employed … so here is what we are going to do ...

If you can't come to Japan this spring … then Japan will come to you!

  • Order any woodblock print(s) from our online catalogue, to a value of at least $60 (or basic equivalent in the other currencies).
  • When we prepare the package we will include the following 'extras':
    • large-size English-language subway map of Tokyo - places you could have gone to!
    • a selection of pamphlets describing walking tours, places to see, and all manner of activities around the Asakusa district - things you could have done!
    • a print-out of our own 'David's Choice Restaurant Guide to Asakusa - Spring 2020 Edition' - foods you could have eaten!

  • If your order goes over $120 we will also include:
    • one of our Print Party prints handmade for you by one of our Party staff members - the print you could have made! (If you already have one of these, let us know which one, and we'll make sure we select something different from the group of designs we have available …)
    • a print-out of the MokuHeroes painting done by our staff member Evelyn Szawerski, depicting many of our workers together with our beautiful little building in Asakusa, of course signed by Dave in appreciation of your support of our work. (Evelyn-san - thank you for making this wonderful drawing!)
