Title: The Serpent Strikes
Left Cartouche: "Metal Machine Solid"
Right Cartouche: "The snake burrows deep, then strikes"
Comments from Jed: This print incorporates some of the design and techniques from the end of the Ukiyo-e era in the early 1900s. Unlike conventional Ukiyo-e, which relied completely on solid outline and fill color, this image uses faint ink impressions to push the background into the distance. You can see similar effects in prints designed by Ogata Gekko and Mizuno Toshikata. (Some of my favorite designers!)
Comments from Dave: (coming soon)
