Description: This is a very special item in our Flea Market - a complete set of 24 prints contained in a presentation folder. It was published in Showa 58 (1983) by the Mainichi Shimbun, as one in a series of such print collections they made during those years.

The designs are all by Kitagawa Utamaro, mostly from the 1790s, and were reproduced in this project at a very high quality level. The carving was done in the workshop of Kikuta Kotaro, and the printing by Uesugi Keiichiro.

The dimensions listed above are for each print.

Photos of all 24 prints in the set are in this directory ...

Shipping costs for this (heavy) item: North America: EMS Express air (insured, trackable): 13,400 yen / Sea Post (3~4 weeks): 6,200 yen

Europe: EMS Express air (insured, trackable): 15,300 yen / Sea Post (5~6 weeks): 6,200 yen

The set is quite bulky; do you have room on your shelves?

Inside the package are two cases. The lower one originally carried a frame, which the owner would use to rotate the print on display. This has been lost, and that case is now empty. The upper case contains the 24 prints.

Opening the upper case reveals the stack of 24 prints. (The blue objects are fillers stopping the print stack from sliding around.)

A pamphlet is included, with descriptive information on all the prints (everything is in Japanese).

Each print is carried in a paper folder, with a 'mat' window ...

Most of the prints have a decorative mica background ...

Images from most of Utamaro's most famous series are included ...

The carving and printing quality are very high.

As you can see on her left arm here, some of the paper on a few of the prints has become lightly toned, although there is no outright foxing present ...

This is the original label, showing the publishing date of 1983, and that this was a limited edition production of 250 sets, of which this is #208. The original price was 485,000 yen.
