Designer: Tamura Sadanobu Era: Pre-war | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: ¥ 22,000$ 160.00£ 120.00€ 140.00 ![]() Description: This triptych depicts three beauties inside a tatami room dressed in elegant kimono loosely draped around their bodies, they reveal glimpses of bare skin, lending the composition a subtle sensuality. The kimonos display a vibrant palette — reds, pinks, greens, and violets — and interesting patterns which stand out vividly against the restrained, almost monochromatic interior backgrounds. In the first sheet, a standing beauty turns her head toward a small tray of tea utensils placed on the floor. She holds her kimono partially open, exposing her chest. Her black robe, adorned with fan and floral motifs interwoven with flowing water patterns, visually echoes the small garden glimpsed beyond the shōji door, where a bamboo branch rises beside a narrow stream. The central sheet portrays a seated beauty holding a small hot pot, attentively observing the steam that rises from it. A pipe lies nearby, suggesting preparations for smoking, while a lantern and other small implements are arranged carefully on the floor, reinforcing the quiet domestic atmosphere. In the third sheet, another standing beauty raises a folded cloth toward her mouth while holding a red textile in her other hand. She wears a striking violet kimono decorated with intricate floral and nature motifs. Through this harmonious composition, Sadanobu offers a glimpse into the private world of a pleasure house in the Edo period, capturing with elegance a fleeting moment of intimacy. The dimensions given are for each print. ![]() Browse thumbnail pages of various selections from the catalogue ...
