Description: This complete set presents representative masterpieces by Kitagawa Utamaro. It was published by the Dai-Ichi Kogei Company and is housed in a protective cardboard box.

The set includes the following works:

3. A Woman Reading a Letter
4. Tomimoto Toyohisa
5. Takashima Ohisa
6. Naniwaya Okita

Accompanying the prints is a small bilingual Japanese–English catalogue, which notes: “These new prints showed figures in half-length, using only a few colors and simplified kimono patterns so as to depict the innate beauty of women, elegance, gracefulness, sweetness and coquetry.”

This observation reflects Utamaro’s attention on facial expression, gesture, and psychological nuance, elevating the bijin-ga genre to a subject worthy of artistic interest.
