Item from the Mokuhankan Flea MarketCouple Cooling Off on a Bench![]() Size: 22.0cm by 28.5cm (8.66 in by 11.22 in) | Enlargement | Shipping Code: [L] ? Designer: Shiba Kokan Era: Post-war | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: ¥ 10,000$ 74.00£ 56.00€ 63.75 ![]() Description: Although the seal reads "Harunobu-ga" (painted by Harunobu), the work is in fact by Shiba Kōkan, also known as Suzuki Harushige. He studied ukiyo-e under the popular artist Suzuki Harunobu, and according to his own writing Shunpūrō Hikki, after Harunobu's death he produced forged works bearing Harunobu's signature. He later began signing his own works as Harushige. At first glance, the print could easily be mistaken for Harunobu's, but elements such as the bold use of perspective reveal the wit and originality characteristic of Kōkan, who had studied Western painting. This version is a post-war reproduction by the Adachi Company. ![]() Browse thumbnail pages of various selections from the catalogue ...
