He was influenced by Western techniques and applied this to his woodblock prints. This print shows a night scene of Nihonbashi Bridge in Tokyo. During that time, gas lamps have recently been installed in Tokyo, allowing artist to make designs showing a different type of light than before. Therefore, this print is often shown at exhibitions focussing on light, darkness and shading.
