Designer: Katsushika Hokusai Era: Post-war | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: ![]() Description: From the set 'Famous Bridges in the Provinces set'. The set was originally published in about 1834, and all of its prints are signed Saki no Hokusai Iitsu Hitsu ("by the brush of Iitsu, formerly named Hokusai") in the block. There are eleven known prints in the series, each depicting, as the title indicates, a different famous bridge. People stop to enjoy the view of sakura trees in full bloom on the banks of the Katsura River in this print of the Togetsu Bridge by Hokusai. A temple can be seen nestled between mountains in the background, and the "linear" style of the clouds is reminiscent of the depictions of clouds in traditional nara-ehon books and scrolls. The mountains have been printed in such a way that the sakura trees stand out from the print, making them appear heavily laden with white and pink blossoms. This version is a post-war reproduction by Adachi Company. ![]() Browse thumbnail pages of various selections from the catalogue ...
