He began his woodblock printing career around 1929 and went on to found the "Matsukyu" printmaking studio after the Second World War, where he trained apprentices. A central figure in the Kyoto Creative Print Movement, he was known for his unique approach of even mass-producing works using the traditional ukiyo-e method. This print depicts cherry blossoms in full bloom at the foot of Uji-bashi Bridge at Ise Shrine. The bridge itself is a wooden, Japanese-style structure measuring 101.8m in length and 8.42m in width.
