Designer: Kitagawa Utamaro Era: Post-war | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: ![]() Description: This print is one of many prints Utamaro made that depict the relationship between Yamauba and her adopted son, Kintarō. The child grabbing onto Yamamba's kimono is Kintarō of Mount Ashigara. Her unkempt, shaggy hair indicates that the woman is Yamamba. Yamamba is portrayed not as a terrifying demoness but as a young and beautiful mother, filled with the innocence of a child and the longing for maternal love. Yamamba holds a chestnut branch and is crouching down as if gently speaking to Kintaro. This print is a post-war reproduction by the Adachi Company. ![]() Browse thumbnail pages of various selections from the catalogue ...
