Description: Togyū Okumura (1889–1990), born Yoshizō in Tokyo, was a celebrated modern Japanese painter known for his work in the Nihonga tradition of watercolor painting. A leading figure in 20th-century Japanese art, he was honored with the prestigious Order of Culture and served as chief director of the Japanese Fine Arts Institute.

Okumura developed a distinctive technique characterized by the repeated application of white gofun pigment—sometimes as many as 100 to 200 layers—as a foundation. This process produced paintings of exceptional luminosity and depth, resulting in an exquisite quality of color that became a hallmark of his work.

This print depicts Mount Fuji rising majestically, its snow-capped peak standing out in striking contrast against a clear blue sky. The mountain’s base is rendered in darker tones, enhancing the visual depth of the composition.
