Designer: Shiba Kokan Era: Taisho | Currency: $ / £ / € Price:  Description: This print is from the series, 日本木版画粋 (Masterpieces of Japanese Woodblock Prints), a collection of reproductions of various themes and designs published around 1924. The print quality is excellent (for most of the prints) and there are almost no traces of baren on the back, suggesting that they may have been at least partially machine printed or produced using collotype printing. This print depicts a young courtesan leaning outside a shoji (traditional Japanese door made of paper), the inside of the house is in the background. She is wearing a blue kimono with white floral patterns that contrasts with a red underdress. There is a black lacquered box at her feet and a big picture behind her. This image shows a landscape with a big mountain in the background and a small house on the flank of a big rock that is on the side. It is interesting how the palette of the whole elements in the print, except for the woman, is very neutral in order to let the colors of the woman’s clothes stand out.    Creases on both sides.
