He became one of the leading contemporary printmakers, with many of his works held in renowned art museums both in Japan and abroad. Fascinated by Kyoto's beauty, he dedicated his life to his art with the desire to pass on Japan's irreplaceable beauty and the traditional art of woodblock printmaking to the next generation. Koetsu-ji Temple, depicted here, was built on land associated with the Edo period intellectual Honami Koetsu, and became a temple after his death. There are seven tea houses on the grounds, and here the unique bamboo fence surrounding one of the tea houses, called "Koetsu-gaki," is depicted amidst beautiful autumn leaves.
