Description: Kyoto-based Japanese painter Ito Nisaburo (1905-2001) was a prolific artist, so there is a wealth of designs by the artist in a variety of evolving styles: some are minimalist in composition and color, drawing on the traditions of Chinese and Japanese painting, while others are reminiscent of other shin-hanga artists of the time.

It is a sunny afternoon in this scene that captures the spacious front entrance of the Kyoto Gosho (Kyoto Imperial Palace), anchored by the presence of a majestic ancient tree in the foreground. The tree casts a broad, dappled shadow across the ground, creating a striking contrast with the sunlit courtyard.

Two pedestrians walk leisurely toward the entrance, shielding themselves from the bright sunlight with their umbrellas. The composition plays with light and shadow, lending the scene a sense of depth and quiet dynamism.
