Description: This print is from a reproduction set of 25 excellent Kabuki actor and sumo wrestler portraits by Sharaku, published by O-edo Mokuhansha around 1972. These reproductions are luxuriously finished with a mica (kirazuri) background.

This is Osagawa Tsuneyo Ⅱ 二代目小佐川常与 playing the role of Ippei Ane Osan 一平姉おさん, although some specialists disagree, and think that this is Jyonoshin Tsuma Sakuragi 定之進妻桜木.

Sharaku seems to have depicted this female character in a way that is not particularly feminine - with bold eyebrows, sunken eyes, and a strong jaw.
