Designer: Uemura Shoen Era: Late Showa | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: ![]() Description: Shoen Uemura (1875 – 1949) a Kyoto native, was a pioneering female painter of the Nihonga tradition, active from the Meiji through the early Showa periods. Renowned for her elegant and refined portraits of women (bijinga), her works drew deep inspiration from the customs of Kyoto, classical Japanese history, and the subtle drama of Noh theater. This print features a young beauty elegantly dressed in shades of blue, her hairstyle nicely arranged and adorned with hair accessories. Seated outdoors, she leans against the railing of a balcony, her posture serene and introspective. With her head resting softly in her hands, she gazes towards the sky in quiet anticipation, awaiting the rise of the moon. The composition captures her in a three-quarter view from behind, offering a glimpse of both her elegant back and delicate profile. The original artwork for this print was created in 1944, but the print (which used 30 woodblocks) was published by Momose in 1986 as part of a limited edition of 300. There are a few spots on this print. ![]() Browse thumbnail pages of various selections from the catalogue ...
