Geese are descending through a mountainous area, with ships and smaller boats in the bay below. Also depicted is Saijo Castle, which was the most famous landmark in the area. Nowadays, all that is left of the castle is the moat and main gate. This design is part of the ‘Famous Views of the Sixty-odd Provinces’ series by Ando Hiroshige. He created one famous view from each of the (back then) 68 provinces of Japan. With one additional print of Edo (now Tokyo) and a list of contents, the series consists of 70 prints in total. The series was first published by Koshimuraya Heisuke from 1853 to 1856.
