Description: Taki Shûsui, born in 1938 in Nagoya, is a contemporary Japanese printmaker known for his contributions to the sosaku hanga ("creative prints") movement. Deeply inspired by the ukiyo-e beauties of Keisai Eisen, Taki began his celebrated series Twelve Months of Girls as a modern homage to classical themes. Taki carves and prints each design himself, demonstrating meticulous attention to detail and mastery of the complex woodblock printing technique.

This particular print features two butterflies flitting near a flowering wisteria branch. Each element stands out vividly against a green background of wood grain, whose natural texture becomes an integral part of the composition. The scene is elegantly framed within a fan-shaped border.

The print is taped on the back of the mat.
