Designer: Yamaguchi Hoshun Era: Early Showa | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: ![]() Description: Yamaguchi Hoshun (1893–1971) was a Japanese Nihonga painter and designer, and was honored with the prestigious Order of Culture. Among his most notable masterpieces are Summer Impression (1950), Autumn (1961), and Maple Tree (1967), the latter painted directly on a cedar door in the Tokyo Imperial Palace. Though he received formal training in traditional Japanese-style painting, Hoshun developed a personal approach known as "Hoshun Modernism." This style was deeply inspired by Western modern art, particularly the works of French painters such as Braque and Matisse. This print features a pair of chrysanthemums, one red and one yellow, creating a striking and harmonious visual contrast. The composition offers a close-up view of the blossoms, allowing the viewer to appreciate their rich textures. Set against a luminous gold background, the shimmer of the gold pigment enhances the overall design, amplifying the vibrancy of the flowers' colors. Please handle with care, as the light yellow pigment used in the yellow chrysanthemum appears prone to flaking due to static electricity. The print will be shipped with thin washi paper to prevent further pigment from flaking. ![]() Browse thumbnail pages of various selections from the catalogue ...
