Description: This print captures a serene summer evening along the banks of the Sumida River, where six women are enjoying the refreshing coolness of the breeze.

The left sheet features two standing beauties, one holding gracefully a fan and the other one a straw saucer. Nearby, a seated woman dressed in a striking black kimono watches the scene unfold with quiet poise. The trio directs their attention to two strolling courtesans, (depicted in the right sheet) who walk hand in hand, accompanied by a mistress of a teahouse, distinguishable by her blue and white summer yukata.

The diptych evokes a moment of Edo’s vibrant social life.
