Designer: Utagawa Toyokuni Era: Taisho | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: ![]() Description: Part of a monthly subscription series of three woodblock prints issued by the Yamato Hanga Kano-khai in ca. 1924. Two women are coming out of a public bath, each holding their clothes, presumably changed after the bath. They are looking back at a man carrying a bundle of camellia flowers on his head. Toyokuni interestingly depicted these three people; the two beautiful and tall ladies are wearing nicely patterned kimono, while the man, who looks like a peddler, is short, dressed in simple clothes, and has a funny-looking face. We are not sure, but this seems to be the work of Toyokuni I (1769-1825). He depicted many beautiful ladies who appear healthy and have a soft, gentle atmosphere. There is foxing in the lower part. There are traces of glue removal on the back of this print. ![]() Browse thumbnail pages of various selections from the catalogue ...
