Description: From Hiroshige's "Famous Places in Edo" (Edo Meisho) series. It depicts a distant view of Kinryuzan Temple from Asakusa River. In the foreground, some travelers wearing straw hats and raincoats are rowing a boat under a heavy rain. Bokashi gradation has been used in several sections of the print, and the depiction of rain drops as long lines is a nice feature.

The format of the print is called tanzaku-ban, and was very popular during the Edo era. This particular dimension made perfect use of a single sheet of washi being cut into four strips vertically. Many of the prints were actually made 'two-up' and then cut apart for sale later.

Most of the time Hiroshige used this format for nature kacho-e genre (birds/flowers), but he did still produce some landscapes using it.

This version is a post-war reproduction by the Takamizawa Company.

There is a slight crease at the upper left edge of this print.
