Description: [Special note: we are currently featuring a group of prints in partnership with 'Sakai Kokodo', print dealers here in Tokyo who have been in business since the 1870s. Their shops are currently closed due to the pandemic, and as they have no online presence in English, we have invited them to join us here for the time being.

The prints we will include will all be originals from either the late Edo or the Meiji period, and are selected from their vast collection. This is the same company/family that owns and operates the 'Japan Ukiyo-e Museum' in Matsumoto in Nagano Prefecture.

We hope you enjoy these selections. We here at Mokuhankan are enjoying (and learning from) these prints during the time that they are temporarily here with us!]

* * *

This is a Kuniyoshi triptych from 1856. The episode featured is the battle of Kurikaradani featuring the warriors Takuma Genba (right) and Wakagawa Kiyohide (center), both on horseback.

The dimension displayed is the approximate size of each print.

The three prints of this triptych are in original untrimmed condition; they are printed on a slightly firmer paper than is sometimes found on prints of this type.

There is some worming on these prints (near the top edge, and at the bottom). (We photographed them against a black background to make this visible in the photos below.)

The original production quality is also fine, only slight registration issues at the lower part of the right-most print.
