Description: This image is a little bit different from most of the Mokuhankan publications - it is not a reproduction of an old design. And as you can see, it is certainly not made in the old style, with flat colours filled in among outlines.

This is a scene of a real place - English Bay in Vancouver Canada - seen one summer evening in 2005 when I was on a visit with my family there. I designed and carved this print after returning to my workroom in Japan. I was behind schedule on my work because of the time 'stolen' for the vacation, and as this beautiful scene was still vivid in my mind, I decided to have a try at turning it into a woodblock print.

Even though I had spent decades carving and printing, I was still not very experienced at creating designs for prints, so producing this one was quite a challenge for me. It's not 'great art' by anybody's reckoning, but I do think that it makes a pleasing effect ...
