Busyness!

This has got a be a 'first' for us I guess ... Over the course of this coming week:

  • Young printer Tetsui-san is digging in on a large batch of the 'Soul Eater' print in the Ukiyoe Heroes series ...
  • Not-so-young printer Shinkichi Numabe is working away on yet another batch of the 'Infestion' print from the Ukiyoe Heroes series ...
  • Even not-so-younger printer Kenichi Kubota is nearing completion of the initial batch of the 'Yokai Dracul' print in the Ukiyoe Heroes series, which will fly over to Jed the instant it is done ...
  • Three of our staff members here at Mokuhankan - Ayumi Miyashita, Patty Fujii, and Yasue Tsushima - will go from start to finish on a batch of 150 copies of the most recent Chibi Heroes pair of prints ... (the batch that will complete this first set of 24)
  • [Top secret news] a young lady carver down in Kobe is working on her first trial job for us - a sample set of blocks for the new subscription series - 'Ukiyoe Heroes Portraits' - that will begin next January (replacing the Chibi Heroes) ...
  • ... and of course, here at my own bench, I am now nearing completion of the seventh print in the Ukiyoe Heroes series - 'I Choose You', which was the final one scheduled during the course of the Kickstarter campaign, and which will be printed by our own staff beginning in the following week ...

Jed-san, you've got six printers and two carvers working full-time for you this week!

* * *

And I almost forgot to mention ... down in Shizuoka City, at the 'Tokaido Hiroshige Museum of Art' (Japanese website), they are running a two-month long exhibition, showing ukiyoe from Hiroshige's time (they are located right on the old Tokaido Road) right up to the modern day. The final five prints in the exhibition are ... you guessed it, the five Ukiyoe Heroes woodblocks finished to date!
