いかるがの雨 (Pagoda in Rain)
Designer: Kawase Hasui | Printer: Ayumi Ohashi
Description: A Hasui postcard design originally dating from (probably) the late 1930s. We had no access to the original block set when making our reproduction, so Dave - along with young printer Ayumi Ohashi - 'reverse engineered' an original print in the Mokuhankan collection, trying to work out just how all the various tones were overlaid.
Our published version will differ slightly from the original - Ayumi-san wants to lighten the wall behind the woman, and make a couple of other slight changes - but none of our alterations will be as dramatic as the variations between batches that came from the original publisher!
This is our first proof copy - and you can see where we made a carving error, leaving out part of a roof. Read a blog post about how we fixed it!
