Here is the fourth collection of stories from my A Story A Week website - all the stories that appeared on the site during the second half of 2007.
I was asked a while back - in relation to the story Who Will Bell the Cat? that appears in this volume - whether or not these stories are all true. In that story I described an episode where Boots the Cat killed four birds one night, and left them all in my bedroom, where I found them when I woke up.
I had to reply that yes, unfortunately, that episode was completely true, and that yes, any events mentioned in these stories did take place exactly as I described them. It’s not that I’m specifically trying to be an honest person here; it’s just simply that there seems to be a never-ending supply of episodes and ideas on which to base stories, without having to resort to my imagination!
And to tell the truth, I think that if I did indeed try to ‘make things up’, I don’t think that I would be able to produce interesting stories. There are millions of ‘would be’ novelists in the world, and look how few of them are able to hold our attention! No, it’s best if I stick to what I can handle, and that is just to sit at my keyboard and tell my friends about something that happened to me, or something I thought about ‘the other day’.
I think that everybody has stories in them, and anybody could create a similar A Story A Week, if they chose to. I’m just happy that people seem to be enjoying reading mine!
I hope you enjoy this collection of my light stories. The next one will appear in another six months; if you can’t wait, then please visit the website, where you can read a new one every week:
Important note on the Printed version: If you are located in the US, it is far cheaper for you to obtain this book from Lulu, the 'print on demand' service. They will run off single copies to order, and the printing quality is very good. (This doesn't work for people living in other areas, as Lulu charges exorbitant shipping rates for addresses out of the US)
About the eBook version: The book has been slightly altered from the physical version; the Japanese vocabulary sections have been omitted, leaving all the English text untouched. The Table of Contents within this pdf version is also 'hot' - clicking on any story title will jump you to the corresponding page. The entire text of the book is also accessible with the 'search' function of your pdf reader. More information on the Mokuhankan eBooks - their format, how to use them, how to download them, and other relevant details, along with a free download sample you can inspect - can be found on this page.
