Here is the second collection of stories from my A Story A Week website - everything that was posted for the site subscribers to read during the second half of 2006.
Since the website went online at the beginning of the year, I have been asked occasionally whether or not I will be able to come up with a continuous supply of story ideas. I have to say that this isn’t a concern for me at all. As I have written, "I have no shortage of story ideas; I keep a pocket recorder at hand at all times to make memos to myself whenever I think of something that seems interesting, and it has become nearly full up!"
So raw ideas are no problem, but turning them into stories that fill the requirements of this project is a bit more complicated. Difficult words must be presented in a context that will allow the reader to guess the meaning, and the sentences must not be allowed to become too complex. And of course - most importantly - the result has to be interesting. I hope that at least some of the time, I have succeeded in this!
The stories in this book were all newly written for A Story a Week, and the series is continuing - a new one appears on the website every Sunday morning, along with a recording of David reading the story.
Important note on the Printed version: If you are located in the US, it is far cheaper for you to obtain this book from Lulu, the 'print on demand' service. They will run off single copies to order, and the printing quality is very good. (This doesn't work for people living in other areas, as Lulu charges exorbitant shipping rates for addresses out of the US)
About the eBook version: The book has been slightly altered from the physical version; the Japanese vocabulary sections have been omitted, leaving all the English text untouched. The Table of Contents within this pdf version is also 'hot' - clicking on any story title will jump you to the corresponding page. The entire text of the book is also accessible with the 'search' function of your pdf reader. More information on the Mokuhankan eBooks - their format, how to use them, how to download them, and other relevant details, along with a free download sample you can inspect - can be found on this page.
